Name: Uday Jose
NZTC Qualification: Certificate in Early Childhood Education (Level 5)
*The Level 5 program is now known as the New Zealand Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 5).
How did you come to study the Certificate in Early Childhood Education (Level 5) with NZTC?
I found out about the program from two of my colleagues teaching in the early years. We all teach at an International Baccalaureate (IB) School in Bangalore, and they recommended I study NZTC’s Level 5 program to get an understanding of early childhood education.
What were you doing before studying with NZTC?
I studied a diploma in Audio Engineering and Music Technology at a tertiary institution specialising in creative media qualifications.
How was your NZTC study experience?
My experience studying the Level 5 has been a rollercoaster ride – but a good one! It has been great being introduced to new terminologies and discovering pedagogical methods that I have been practicing unknowingly. I’m happy to know that I’m not alone in this ride, as there are other students sharing the same experiences.
What support did you receive from the college during your studies?
As a person who likes getting instant answers, I spent a lot of my Level 5 program receiving support from my lecturers via phone when I called them to ask something.
What do you enjoy most about working with children?
I most enjoy opening up their world of imagination and make-believe which, in many ways, can be linked with the real world they live in.
What is your teaching philosophy?
To shape each and every child into positive thinkers, responsible leaders and independent learners on their path to adulthood. To give them the opportunity to shape their own destiny and never go by the world’s standards. There is a Mozart, Obama, Marie Curie, or a Serena Williams in all of them that just needs to be tapped into.
